Up to 10 different sounds all in one
Blitzer is a character compressor that draws inspiration from iconic hardware like the 1176 and LA-2A compressors. It offers 10 ratios with 10 unique compression curves, making it a versatile tool for delivering a wide range of compression effects. Blitzer can add soft saturating compression, or achieve explosive brick-wall limiting, depending on your needs.
Sprinkle Colour to your productions
Unlike most analog-modelled compressors, Blitzer contains a dedicated Drive control. More commonly, you would achieve a driven tone by squashing the threshold levels of your compressor, however, with this independent control, Blitzer has much more functionality. Ranging from subtle harmonic generation to hardcore distortion, the Drive control can be used as a creative processor or be used to augment and enhance a sound you already have. Turning your Ratio control down to 1:1, Blitzer will warm up your tracks without any compression artefacts, and gradually dialling in the Drive control, you have a wide range of tones to explore.
"All Buttons In"
Typically associated with hardware compressor/limiter dynamics processors, Blitzer features a dedicated BLITZ! button to turbo-charge your compression. Moulding together brick-wall limiting with a logarithmic decay, BLITZ! mode is not subtle, imparting a distinctive sound that's perfect for adding energy to your mixes. A fantastic way to add sustain and movement to your drum room microphones or harsh synthesizer leads, this mode isn't for the faint-hearted.
Internal parallel compression
Without complex routing or ever leaving the plug-in window, Blitzer lets you blend in the original, dry signal to your wet signal, allowing for parallel mixing and compression. A common technique in professional mixing, parallel compression can be used to add punch and sustain to your vocals or drums. The Mix knob can also be used to blend in the dry, unprocessed signal to reduce the intensity of the effect, helping to fit with the rest of your mix.
Detection sidechain
Ideal for a compressor, Blitzer comes with a dedicated Sidechain input section. A listen knob lets you hone in on your incoming signal and listen to your side-chain only while parameters including Frequency, Q and Gain make up the sidechain bell filter - ideal for taming harsh vocals in the upper midrange.
Built on the SSL plug-in engine
The SSL Plug-in Engine is equipped with useful features such as cross-platform preset management, A/B comparison, built-in UNDO/REDO stack, and brand-new built-in contextual help. These features aim to enhance the user's experience with the plug-in and ensure a smooth workflow. The cross-platform preset management and A/B comparison enable the user to easily access and compare different settings. The built-in UNDO/REDO stack allows the user to undo or redo a certain action without losing their work progress. The built-in contextual help is useful for beginners and guides them through the features of the plug-in.
Diverse application
Engineered to be versatile enough to deliver a vast range of tones, there's virtually no instrument, sound or mix application that Blitzer can't pair with. With over 10 unique compression curves through different setting combinations, Blitzer could replace multiple different compressor types you reach for in each session. Try experimenting with different ratios, attack and release values to harness the sound of classic hardware devices you know and love.
Keeping the ratio high with a slow attack and release set to 0, you can inject the sound of classic tube-driven VCA levelling amplifiers. A perfect solution for pinning vocals to the front of a mix or for clamping the level of a bass drum to sit within your drum mix. Dropping the ratio to 6:1 with a fast attack set to 2 and a release set to 4 will deliver the signature sound of a solid-state FET-style, blackface compressor/limiter. Typically used for smoothing out the dynamics of a vocal, you can use these settings to tame the transients of your drums or enhance your punchy electric guitars.
Not just limited to the above, there are 10 possible combinations to experiment with, making it the perfect one-stop solution for your dynamics needs.
