In the construction of the body only selected wood of the finest quality is used. Each carefully selected piece of Grenadilla is stored for several years to guarantee effective seasoning and lessen the occurrence of cracks and splits later on before artisans precisely carve each barrel, upper joint, lower joint and bell from a single piece of wood.
The wood is finally treated in an oil bath for an extended period of time and "preserved" with paraffin to lock in the oil. All instruments are given a final inspection to ensure that they are up to the highest of standards. With the reputable craftsmanship of Schreiber, this clarinet is made to have an excellent intonation and sound.
Keywork
The smoothly designed keywork has been slightly altered to reduce the weight, resulting in a more comfortable playing experience. The keywork is made of nickel silver and silver plated for shine and durability. The usage of high-quality material guarantees functional reliability, stability and stable performance. The adjustable thumb rest is also made of nickel silver and allows players to find the most comfortable setting.
Sound and Response
Having a full sound and easy response, this free blowing, well-balanced instrument is suited perfectly for beginners and younger students wishing to pursue music. The clarinet has excellent intonation across all registers, prompting aural training in learners right from the start.
The upper joint is equipped with 2 linked trill keys (Bb and C) sharing the same tone hole. The addition of extra resonance holes on the third ring of the upper joint and on the first ring of the lower joint allow for perfect tuning of e’/a’’ and c’/g’’, respectively. The tone hole for b’/f#’’ is located at the side and covered with an additional side key.
Case and Accessories
The D-12 comes with a specially designed mouthpiece, 2 barrels and a backpack-style case, which offers a good level of protection for the clarinet.
