If you are a fan of 80s synth music, the Eight Electro Synth kit is the perfect choice for you. Inspired by the likes of Human League & New Order, the Electro Synth Kit allows you to build a retro-style synthesizer. Once completed, the synthesizer acts like a Stylophone-based synth, with a copper track that allows you to control pitch, amplitude, effects and more.
Once built, the synthesizer resembles a synth from the 80s, with vintage-style controls and the cardboard picture box that acts as the top panel for the synthesizer. The synth is operated by running your finger across the copper track, with built-in effects such as tremolo and envelope modulation. The opposite side of the copper keyboard features buttons for switching between sharp and flat notes.
The integrated effects can be used for a variety of applications. The envelop modulation can be enabled by pushing the button next to the green LED. Once enabled, the sound amplitude is changed periodically, indicated by the green LED flashing. The amplitude’s range and speed can be changed in a configuration of ten steps by using the same push button used to trigger the effect. Changing the amplitude speed will change the flashing sequence of the green LED, with more intermittent flashes indicating a smaller step. The tremolo button can be found next to the blue LED, designed to change the frequency of your sound, acting as a sort of wah-wah effect. The blue LED acts as a visual indicator, allowing you to change the frequency in ten steps via the push-button. The LED again indicates the current step value by flashing slower for large frequency changes.
The Electro Synth Kit is built for synth lovers that want a more hands-on experience, allowing you to build it from scratch. The assembly process is easy, with all components and relevant wiring included with the kit. The only outside source used to create this synthesizer would be a soldering iron for fixing all the parts together. The picture box is then used as the housing for the synthesizer, delivering a vintage-style aesthetic. The synth runs on 3 x AA batteries and features a built-in loudspeaker for added convenience.
