The FTM33 is the result of the collaboration between Ibanez and the guitarist for the progressive metal band Meshuggah: Frederik Thordendal. Meshuggah are known for their powerful tones, articulate riffs and virtuosic compositions, and this is a guitar built to be able to meet their demands. Having been in existence for over 30 years, Meshuggah are pioneers in the "Djent" genre and have helped inspire a generation of musicians. The FTM33 is built on a long heritage and is perfect for those wanting to emulate the tones that Thordendal creates.
The FTM33 was clearly made to make an imposing impression on stage and it does this with absolute certainty. Despite the angular appearance though, it is still comfortable to play and has many features to ensure great playability. The guitar is made with neck-through construction which aids in reaching the upper-frets of the guitar. The wide radius and jumbo frets help the player reach all 8 strings and utilise all the extended techniques that the progressive-metal genre requires.
8-strings places a large demand on any guitar, with greater string tension and increased difficulty generating sustain. Therefore, the FTM33 features a 7 piece maple/walnut neck with titanium strengthening rods to cope with the increased tension, while the neck-though construction allows the string resonance to pass all the way through the ash-winged body. Despite the extreme tunings that Thordendal uses, this guitar will still provide you with a responsive feel and plenty of sustain.
The FTM33 includes the Lundgren Model M8P pickups which are built to offer a powerful, bright and articulate sound. They cope well with low tunings and provide the sustain you need for those low riffs. The FX Edge III-8 bridge is a double locking design fixed-bridge to give you exceptional tuning stability and micro-tune adjustments.
Over the past 30 years, Ibanez Guitars have always been at the forefront of developing the right tools for electric guitar players pushing the boundaries of music. For decades, Ibanez designers and luthiers have been the embodiment of this ideology, pushing their skills to the edge of imagination, consistently creating some of the most versatile and unique instruments ever. Although Ibanez guitars have been made since 1908, it wasn't until the late 1980s that they began to form an identity for themselves when artists such as Steve Vai and Frank Zappa began using their instruments. Now with a huge artist clientele across the globe, Ibanez are a leading manufacturer of electric guitars and basses and a first choice for many dedicated musicians.
