Released in 1995, the original Boss BD-2 was an evolution of the OD-2 circuit and was the starting point for the OD-3 (the OD-2 was a radically different circuit than the original OD-1). The ‘fixed tone stack’ network after the first op-amp that gives Blues Drivers their distinctive character and tone is retained, along with equipping the boost stage with an op-amp that doesn’t clip giving the transparency and dynamic response that the Blues Driver is famous for. New features designed to modernise the circuit are included however, such as the upgraded buffer which means it functions more cleanly as part of a pedalboard. The biggest addition is the new 'Custom' mode though which enhances low end prominence, accentuates mid response, and increases sustain giving the classic Blues Driver tone a modern edge.
